Washington Nationals Top Prospect Tearing Up Minor Leagues After Being Drafted No. 2 Overall

Washington Nationals top draft choice Dylan Crews is dominating his first taste of professional baseball.

The reigning Golden Spikes Award winner and College World Series champion out of LSU went 5-for-5 on Sunday and the following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Crews went 5-for-5 with a walk, two home runs, four runs scored and six RBI for Single-A Fredericksburg on Sunday.

ANALYSIS
The second overall pick in this year's draft, Crews has dismantled low-minors pitching to begin his pro career, going 13-for-39 (.333) through his first eight games for Fredericksburg with two doubles and four homers. There have been small blemishes on his line -- he's gone 1-for-3 on stolen-base attempts and has struck out 10 times against only three walks -- but nothing that raises any serious concerns about his future. The 21-year-old appears headed for a very quick ascent through the Nationals' system, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Crews finish out the season at High-A if he continues to be unchallenged at his current level.

The Nationals are in last place in the National League East so to have an exciting prospect like Crews, coupled with young major leaguers like Josiah Gray, CJ Abrams and Keibert Ruiz, is great news for a starved fan base. 

Crews hit a whopping .426 this season with 18 homers and 70 RBI for the Tigers, all while posting an absurd .567 on-base percentage. He was taken one pick after his LSU teammate, Paul Skenes, who went No. 1 to the Pirates.

Crews is the No. 1 prospect in the Nationals system and the No. 4 prospect in baseball, per MLB.com.
